A little boy learns a helpful habit.

Sunlight streamed through John's window. He stretched his plump arms and legs. It was morning in their cozy New York apartment. John blinked his big, brown eyes.

John wiggled his toes. He heard a soft rustle from the next room. A new day waited, full of fun things to do. But first, something important.
Page 3
He peeked over the edge of his crib. The bathroom door was open just a crack. Inside, a small blue toothbrush rested by the sink. John thought about the cool water.

John loved playing with his toy cars. They zoomed across the rug! He giggled as he made car noises. Brushing his teeth could wait a little while, he thought.

Later, John was playing with his blocks. He felt a funny taste in his mouth. He scrunched up his nose a tiny bit. It wasn't as fresh as it could be.

John looked toward the bathroom again. He remembered Mom's gentle smile when they brushed their teeth together. He took a deep breath and began to crawl.

He reached the bathroom doorway. John pulled himself up by the cool, white sink. The blue toothbrush waited, looking small but mighty. He reached out one plump hand.

John squeezed a tiny bit of toothpaste onto it. He carefully put the brush into his mouth. It tickled a little, and felt different at first.

He brushed slowly, up and down, then side to side. Swish, swish, swish! He rinsed with a small sip of water. His mouth felt cool and clean.

John looked in the mirror. His teeth sparkled! A wide, proud smile spread across his face. It took a little work, but it felt so good.
