A new adventure begins today.

James stood near the big school door.
His backpack felt very heavy.
His bright green eyes looked around.

A kind teacher smiled at James.
"Hello, James!" she said softly.
Her classroom looked very bright.

James walked into the colorful room.
Other children were already there.
He held his books a little tighter.

Ms. Lily showed James his cubby.
It had a picture of a blue star.
He carefully put down his things.

James looked at a boy drawing.
The boy had a happy, big smile.
James watched him for a moment.

The boy looked up at James.
"Hi," he said, holding out a crayon.
James blinked slowly at the crayon.

James took the crayon and sat down.
He drew a tall, green tree.
Leo drew a big, red apple next to it.

Another girl dropped her pencil.
It rolled far under a chair.
James crawled to help her find it.
