Stories set at school

Classrooms, playgrounds, the lunch table and the school bus. These storybooks were written by children with a parent or teacher, and they get the details right: the line at the water fountain, the reading corner, the friend who saves you a seat. Plots range from a first day of kindergarten to a science fair, a lost library book, and a playground disagreement that gets sorted out. They suit kindergarten through grade 3 readers. They are useful at the start of the year for setting expectations, later as mentor texts for personal narratives, and at home for preparing a child for a new school or a new grade. Every story is free to read online and can be remixed with your child’s own classroom.
