Grade 1 stories
Grade 1 storybooks on TaleBuilder are written for early readers, usually 6-7 years old, which is the D-I band on the Fountas and Pinnell guided reading scale. The chart describes this band as: simple sentences (4-7 words); growing vocabulary with adjectives; pictures support but don't tell whole story; simple dialogue introduced; and clear problem and solution. Each storybook was written by a child with a parent or teacher and then illustrated page by page, so the text stays at a length a grade 1 reader can manage while the pictures carry the rest. Read them together at bedtime, let a confident reader try one alone, or use them in a classroom as short, fresh texts at the right level. Every story is free to read online, and any of them can be remixed into a new version with your own child as the main character.
