Stories about acceptance

The children in these stories meet someone who looks, talks, plays or thinks differently, and learn to see that difference as ordinary. Some stories are about welcoming a new classmate; others are about a child accepting something about themselves. The situations come from the families who wrote them, so they reflect real homes and classrooms rather than a checklist. The stories suit kindergarten through about grade 3. They are useful for preparing a class for a new student, for opening a discussion about inclusion, or for answering a question a child has brought home about why someone is different. The stories are short, free to read online, and each can be remixed with your own child in the lead.
