Stories set in the neighborhood

The block, the corner store, the park at the end of the street and the neighbors who wave from their porches. These storybooks are set in a child’s own neighborhood, and the plots are local: a lemonade stand, a lost cat found three doors down, a street cleanup, a new family moving in. They suit kindergarten through grade 2 readers and fit community and social studies units, where the aim is for children to see their neighborhood as a place with people in it. At home they open a conversation about who lives nearby and how to be a good neighbor. Every story is free to read online, and remixing one lets a child set the story on their own street.
