Slice-of-life stories
A slice-of-life story follows a child through an ordinary stretch of time: a Saturday morning, a walk to school, the first snow, a visit to the market. Nothing dramatic has to happen. The stories pay attention to small things, which is exactly what young children do, and reading them helps a child notice the story in their own day. With gentle pacing and lots of picture support, they suit kindergarten through grade 2 readers and fit bedtime and quiet reading time. In a classroom they model descriptive writing and show that a story does not need a villain. Every story is free to read online, and remixing one is an easy way for a child to write about their own routine.
